These have so many elements in figure painting that I love. Excellent job capturing the stance! Beautiful technique. I absolutely love it when the focal point on the figure is painted in a controlled way while the edges are loose and expressive. These are so amazing!
That second figure has a real sense of weight and the modelling of the forms is really good and subtle.I have a question...is it a common thing for you to adjust the colours and tones from the way you see them, or is it pretty much as is?

Julia, yes I did use medium. The thin wash areas need oil to bind the pigments with the bg, otherwise it is just pigment resting on canvas. 1 part damar 1 part stand oil 5 parts turp
That's awesome. From these two paintings, I see now what you mean about softening edges and creating movement in the background, it brings the figures to life.
OH!WHAT AN AMAZING PAINTER YOU ARE! Liked your paintings very much.I too love to paint figurative paintings. Please check my blog.Your comments would be much appreciated.
These are so beautiful! Is there any chance you could post the painting of a the nude(from behind)wearing a satin glove? I saw it at your studio in November and I absolutely love it! All the best, Tara
